Rastu Nou – the village with hundreds of houses built for no reason for the displaced people of Dolj

There is a place in Romania where people that were once hit by the floods now have two homes

It's been more than four years since the Danube flooded all of Rast Commune, Dolj County. The Government spent approximately 14 million Euro to move the village to a new location that cannot be flooded and mirrors the old village. The only thing is that out of the 800 houses built there, only some 170 are actually being lived in. Of these, most are occupied by new families and by a few families whose old households were completely destroyed by the waters and who had no money to rebuild. The rest of the villagers went back to their old homes, renovated them, and got on with their lives as they were before the floods.
