Shady state policy: captive citizens pay protection fee
Shady state policy: captive citizens pay protection fee
"Let's not wait for the state to take care of us!" I felt the
strength of this truth in the air expired by Mr. President when
coming out from Cireşica and so is it, I guarantee. God forbid the
state takes better care of us than it is already doing. In
the last months, I've witnessed a deliberate act of state
aggression against Romanians.
The state took his own citizens
captive and, as a criminal, asks them for a protection
fee. Desperate to bleed us white, the Government of this
country picks its contributors' pockets and, in the end, it still
has the guts to tell them it's for their own good. That it offers
them protection. That it has ripped them off to be better off in a
yet to come but bright future.
So what nobody will be alive to see it?! That's why Mr.
Băsescu' saying is simply insulting for hundreds of thousands of
Romanians who manage on their own and expect nothing else from the
state except leaving them at peace. Out of "solidarity", the
systematic deprivation Mr. Băsescu and Boc inflict is a blow upon
the most active population running all day long to earn extra
living. How could you not stop these people from their start, how
could you not make them stay in line queuing, and let them know the
state will cater if they stay in the queue.
The truth is that there enough Romanians with set believes who
rejoice: "Băsescu lead you by the nose with the copyright, you
jukeboxes!" I wish these Romanians without dilemma to live
in a world without press where the only possible debate is on
fall's arrival on the Elenei Udrea's blog. It is useless
to remind them that broadsheet press - with double paid taxes - has
already experienced salaries cuts and frequent and painful sacks
since the time when Romania's President and Government hadn't heard
a crisis would come. That big media companies amputated in good
season their budgets, anticipating not only the fall of the
advertising market, but also the lust of the "unprepared"
authorities for money. That we've already paid for the incompetence
of these people.
If you want to come out of the diversion, you don't need to
listen to this "tax dodger" journalist, you may very well chat with
a painter or an architect, a taxi diver or a translator, a plumber
or an attorney, an accountant, an actor, a writer. They will all
say that, actually, Mr. Băsescu is obsessed with taking
revenge against "moguls" and, for this specific purpose, he will
roll down entire gilds, not only journalists that are a small
percentage of the "independent activities" body. All these people
are collaterals. Is Mr. Băsescu somehow regretful towards
the suite of intellectuals who elected him President? Was Prinţesa
Ardealului among them, was Guţă there? Then I don't think so.
After the free lancers tribe runs out, the demolition fury of
the state will be directed against other social categories, because
the situation of the country is "dramatic", as Mr. Băsescu put it
yesterday. It is just a matter of time.
I have never, not even in the times of Adrian Năstase, come
across such a shortage of hope among people I am talking to, either
budgeters, small enterprisers or employees of private companies. In
the case of many captive citizens their parents' solution is in
fashion again: flight. It is, after all, a desperate gesture of
patriotism: to leave loving your country with a deep hatred.

"To earn extra living" might not be the most suitable choice. Something about money, better. There should be some phrases about earning extra money, bucks, etc.
And
...there are enough Romanians with set beliefs... Not "believes."
