The end of presidential "love-affairs"

The end of presidential "love-affairs"

All last week journalists tried to find out why President Traian Băsescu isn't leaving his palace to go to the flooded areas. Was he up to something? Did he have a "physical problem", as some politicians and commentators were suggesting? Neither, as sources from Cotroceni and the Democratic-Liberal Party had stated. The problem was one of the soul: the head of state had gone quiet, "upset", according to said sources, with the Government, Emil Boc, and like you could clearly see Friday and Saturday, when he finally got up in that helicopter, with the world in general.

The Cabinet supposedly annoyed him because they rejected his proposition to tax pensions smaller than 1000 Romanian Lei, after the Constitutional Court saved all pensions from getting cut down, and chose to raise VAT instead. It would be the first time that Emil Boc the Obedient would act independently and in an actual crisis situation no less, which, added to the "sabotage" of the cabinet reshuffling program by some ministers, which was made public in the first meeting in Snagov, is the equivalent of an unexpected undermining of presidential power. Therefore, Traian Băsescu has ceased to act in solidarity with the Government: he did not assume its latest measure which, as a matter of fact, it considers to be its stupidest, and has stopped letting himself be seen in public with the Prime Minister and other emblematic Democratic-Liberal Party members of the Cabinet. He came to flooded Moldova with his favorite ministers: Gabriel Oprea, who is not a member of the Democratic-Liberal Party, and Elena Udrea, who proudly admitted to be the President's, ahem, "man".

"Situaţie de criză majoră" is more than "actual crisis situation."
And the rest of it, more than a half, and the most interesting part, for that matter?
