Romanian consumer prices inched up 0.6% in October, the fifth biggest one-month rise in prices across the European Union, official data showed Wednesday.

In the EU bloc, monthly inflation was 0.3%, the statistics office Eurostat said. The annual rate was 3.4% in October, up from 3.3% in September.

Romanian annual inflation came in at 3.6% in October, up from 3.5% a month earlier. The lowest annual rates were observed in Sweden (1.1%), Ireland (1.5%) and Malta (2.4%), and the highest in the United Kingdom (5%), Estonia (4.7%) and Slovakia (4.6%).

The lowest 12-month averages up to September were registered in Ireland (0.8%), Sweden (1.6%), the Czech Republic and Slovenia (both 2%), and the highest in Romania (6.6%), Estonia (5.2%) and the United Kingdom (4.3%).
